Outing to Huntley Meadows
We embarked pretty early in the day, so as to avoid the worst of the heat and humidity. Huntley Meadows Park has been on my radar for a little while now, but this was the first chance we'd gotten to go check it out. It's a nature preserve right here in Alexandria. One of the things everyone always finds so remarkable about this place is how it's essentially this little patch of wilderness so close to downtown D.C. And indeed, it's pretty neat.
There were lots and lots of dragonflies, which was pretty cool. Soren & A looked for turtles and frogs as we went around the big pond. We saw egrets and Canadian geese. We climbed up the small observation tower, where the boys (free from their strollers) ran laps around a little bench. The whole walking loop is less than 2 miles, so we were done and on our way back home before it got too hot.
Afternoon, more potty practice with varying levels of success. Eleri is still obliging me with long afternoon naps, which is great. She slept through the big summer thunderstorm that blew through our area, which Soren & Leo & I sat and watched together.
