Park, trike, books, beets
To the park this morning with A and his mom. Eleri was singing her "I'm about to fall asleep" song in the car, so I put her in the pouch (set up like a backpack) when we got to the park, fully expecting that she would, indeed, fall asleep in relatively short order. But though she was quiet for a good long while, watching all the goings-on, it wasn't until a couple of hours (and a snack) later that she finally passed out. Go figure. Soren was very excited when a couple of pickup trucks drove down across the grass to the playground so some maintenance guys could do some work. The fact that he actually listened to me when I warned him against bolting straight out into their path was nothing short of a friggin miracle.
At one point, Soren and A both wanted to swing, but there was only one unoccupied swing. It was one of the bucket kind, and even though the boys are really just about too big for it, I thought they could probably share the swing, sitting back to back. They barely fit. It was one of those situations where it's a good thing they're as young as they are because it could have been really painful were they a bit older (read: owmyballz). Eleri, for her part, thought it was the most hilarious thing she'd ever seen. She laughed and laughed and laughed at the sight of the two boys crammed into one swing. That, in itself, was pretty damned funny.
The afternoon was a blah-ish mix of me reading books with Soren (good!), Soren riding his trike on the balcony (good!), Soren misbehaving on the balcony (bad!), Soren misbehaving in the house (bad!), Eleri yelling (ow, my ears!), Soren getting time-outs and crying about it (substantially less than awesome!), and more reading books with Soren (good again!).
One of the side dishes I prepared with dinner was sliced beets sauteed in butter and balsamic vinegar, with a wee bit of sea salt sprinkled over the top. It was super tasty.
