Busily doing nothing

Wednesday:

Day 209

Day 299

Wednesday we continued the week's trend of sleeping late in the morning. That, plus the fact that all 3 of us were coughing, plus the fact that I had wanted to make a crock pot stew for dinner that night, led me to skip playgroup that day. So home we stayed. The stew came out really well. I took a couple of pounds of stew meat (cut into cubes), and mixed that with 1/4 cup of seasoned flour. By which I mean, 1/4 cup of flour into which I stirred some salt, pepper, garlic powder, paprika, rosemary and thyme. This went into the crock pot, along with about 1 1/2 onions, 1/2 a bell pepper, 2 potatoes, 2 celery stalks (all diced), a bag of Brussels sprouts (quartered), a handful of baby carrots, and most of a box of vegetable broth. I set the crock pot to low/10 hours, and let it go. After several hours of cooking, I added whatever was left of the open bags of peas, corn & edamame we had in the freezer, along with a generous spoonful of crushed garlic. That was pretty much it! I stirred about a cup of red wine in shortly before serving, but I'm not sure it made much of a difference to the taste.

That was about all she wrote for Wednesday. Tom was stuck at work quite late, and the kids both fell asleep again in the evening, so it was a late night for all.

Thursday:

Day 210

Day 300

Thursday was rainy, and we still weren't feeling all that great, so we stayed home again. Staying home is a drag. We manage to entertain ourselves pretty well for the most part, reading and playing silly games, but it still gets old.

Eleri started making silly kissy noises not long after she (finally) woke up in the morning. (Girlo slept until after 10:00!) She also discovered how to shake her head "no," which she found endlessly amusing. So between the kissy face and the head shaking, she had us all quite entertained.

Tom got to come home closer to a decent hour, so we all had a nice evening together. I'm sure looking forward to the weekend, though!
